Set it to Full Screen, click Apply, and then reboot the EVE client. That should take care of it. When it restarts the window will open at whatever resolution you set the Desktop parameter to and the EVE client will just fill it up.

I experience this bug as well. I tried hiding the character list in the chat channels but I think it is still grabbing the images in background because it doesn't help. I would love it if CCP restored the option to have portraits not generate unl...

EVE works great for me under Wine. I run the classic graphics until I upgrade my game-rig. But going by what you have posted, my best guess is that you are using the Official EVE Linux Client which right now is garbage IMO. Try the Windows Premiu...
